How to Protect Your Dogs and Cats
From Springtime Hazards
Guest Writer: Craig Davis
Spring is the time for good weather. A lot of people tend to spend more time outdoors along with their pets. However, the spring season can be a difficult period for your dogs and cats. Infections and allergies are common among your canine and feline friends during this time of the year. Cats have allergies during this period more due to the kind of things they consume. Similarly, seasonal allergies in dogs largely occur due to the environmental factors or food-based sensitivities and allergies.
How to Protect Your Dogs and Cats
- White lilies might be enthralling to the eyes during the spring. However, they are one of the main reasons why cats have allergies during this time of the year. The plants as well as the flowers are equally dangerous for the cats. When your cat shows symptoms like reluctance to eat, vomiting, etc., it is advised that you visit a vet quickly. As cats have allergies from these lilies, it is important to be careful if you are out with your kitten.
- Chocolate and various other candies may trigger allergies in dogs. This is due to a compound known as theobromine present in chocolates, which is highly incompatible with animals. Candies also cause problems in dogs because they might eat them with the wrappers on, which in turn may even cause congestion. So, the moment you notice unnatural behavior in your cat or dog, it is always a good idea to consult a vet. In case of chocolate related allergy, it is better to specify the kind of chocolates they have had.
- Like us, even some of our pets might not be that comfortable with large gatherings of people. During this season, allergies in dogs and cats increase because there are changes in their daily life or environment. They might not be comfortable with the crowd or too much noise as well. So, it is advisable to keep them in a separate room in their known environment to help them stay calm.
