Video Showing Alleged Abuse of Factory Farm Pigs
This NBC News undercover video showing alleged abuse of factory farm pigs has resulted in Tyson Farms, the nation’s largest meat producer, terminating its contract with an Oklahoma pig farm. The video shows workers on the farm kicking, hitting and throwing pigs and slamming piglets into the ground.
WARNING: Graphic Content
The video was shot by an activist from the animal rights group Mercy for Animals from mid-September to mid-October as he worked undercover as a farmhand at West Coast Farms, an Okfuskee County business that supplies pork products under contract to Tyson Foods. The advocacy group says the actions seen on video and witnessed by its investigator violate a state animal cruelty law, and are contrary to Tyson’s policies on the treatment of livestock.
Gary Mickelson, a spokesman for Tyson Foods, said:
“We’re extremely disappointed by the mistreatment shown in the video and will not tolerate this kind of animal mishandling. We are immediately terminating our contract with this farmer and will take possession of the animals remaining on the farm.”
The owner of the farm, Lonnie Herring, said that he “was stunned that anyone could be that callous in their treatment of any animal.” said Lonnie Herring. He further states that after viewing the video, he fired those employees seen in the video.

Hey Jeanne,
Thanks a lot for spreading the word! Our planet needs it more than ever. We can all contribute to ending this horror. Switching to a plant-based diet is definitely the best solution.
I’m publishing an in-depth article about the terrible aspects of factory farming which quotes this one. Would gladly share it with you so feel free to reach out.
All the best,
Alex
Animals are also living things, so i wonder why some people decide to abuse them at time. nevertheless, i think they actually acted that way because pigs are not dogs, you know dogs are often well taken care of… but thats bad anyway.
It’s so saddening 🙁 thanks for spreading the word
This is very sad. Very hard to watch. It’s good and bad that you showed this. Because many of us do not know what goes on at the farm. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Jeanne,
OMG…no wonder why I don’t eat meat! I’ve known a lot about the horrid treatment of our livestock. But when it comes to pigs, I just break out in tears.
They are such smart animals. I did try to watch the video, but couldn’t because I know I would start crying. There is so much abuse, when will it ever end?
Thank you for raising awareness.
-Donna
